Wildcat Dominate Final Three Quarters; Earn Heart Victory at Saint Ambrose
The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team outscored Saint Ambrose 16-5 over the final three quarters to post an 18-9 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory Wednesday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa.
The victory was the first league victory for the Wildcats, who also snapped a five-game losing streak. C-SC is now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in in the Heart. Saint Ambrose falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The Wildcats trailed 4-2 after the first quarter before C-SC outscored the Bees 6-3 in the second quarter to lead 8-7 at the intermission. C-SC dominated the second half, holding a 10-2 scoring edge over the final 30 minutes to seal the victory.
Addison Holm and Jacee Grinsteinner scored five goals each to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Holm also registered six assists in the game to finish with 11 total points. Brookelyn Lindberg, Mia Naughton and Rylan Mahone all contributed two goals each with Naughton adding two assists.
Jillian Vervynck entered the game after the first quarter in relief of starting goalkeeper Donelle Wagner and played the final 45 minutes to earn the victory. Vervynck made five saves in the final three periods.
C-SC dominated the stat sheet recording 35 shots to the Bees' 22 shots. The Wildcats also had an 18-11 advantage in draws and a 20-15 edge in ground balls. C-SV was 15-for-16 on clears and 1-for-1 on free position shots.
The Wildcats will try to make it two straight this Friday, April 3, when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to battle Mount Mercy University. Game time is slated for 10 a.m.
