Lacrosse Begins Heart Play with Loss to No. 1 Benedictine
The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team began Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a 22-3 loss to defending national champion and top-ranked Benedictine College Sunday morning at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
Benedictine led 6-1 after one quarter, 13-1 at halftime and and 17-2 at the end of three quarters before outscoring the hosts 5-1 in the final 15 minutes.
C-SC goalies Jillian Vervynck and Donelle Wagner registered five saves each. Verynck faced 19 shots in 27:32 of game action, while Wagner had 23 shots in 32:28 of game action.
Addison Holm had a hand in all three Wildcat goals, scoring two goals and assisting on a third goal scored by Rylan Mahone. Holm also led the Wildcats with four draw controls.
Benedictine outshot the Wildcats 41-5 while also holding an advantage in draws (19-7), and ground balls (28-17). The Ravens were 10-for-11 on clears while C-SC was eight-for-10.
C-SC (2-7, 0-1 Heart) is scheduled to to play at Saint Ambrose University this Wednesday, April 1, in Davenport, Iowa. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
