Moore's PK Wins it for Wildcats
Rian Moore's penalty kick goal in the 73rd minute was enough to lift the Culver-Stockton women's soccer team to a 2-1 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over William Penn University at Ellison Poulton Stadium Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied 1-1 in the second half, a scramble in the William Penn penalty area led to a foul that led to the Moore penalty attempt. Moore, the Wildcats' leading goal-scorer, buried the penalty to the left of the Statesman goalkeeper for her sixth goal of the season.
C-SC took a 1-0 lead just before halftime when a corner kick by Desiree Hensiek curled inside the near post with just 25 seconds left in the half. WPU goalkeeper Emma Billings appeared to get a hand on it but not enough to keep the Wildcats from taking the lead.
It took the Statesmen less than five minutes to register the equalizer at the start of the second half. A re-start near midfield was sent deep into C-SC territory where the Wildcats failed to clear and Lilly Cote tied the game in the 50th minute.
The Wildcats held a 14-7 edge in shots, including a 5-3 advantage of shots on frame. C-SC goalkeeper Sam Link made two saves to improve her record to 4-0-0 on the season.
C-SC (4-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the Heart) is slated to host Park University this Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Poulton Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
