Rian Moore Scores One Goal, Assists on Another as Wildcats Tie Dordt 2-2

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team yielded a late goal and settled for a 2-2 draw with Dordt University at the American Bank Sports Complex in Sioux Center, Iowa, Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats, who were outshot 18-6 in the game, trailed 1-0 at halftime after allowing the Defenders to score just 10 minutes into the game.

However, C-SC started the second half with offensive pressure and got the equalizer just four minutes in when Rian Moore took a cross from Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez and slipped under the sprawling Dordt goalkeeper for her firth goal of the season.

The Wildcats kept the pressure in the moments after the goal and forced a corner kick. The ball came to Leilani Harworth at the top of the penalty area, but she lost control when a Dordt defender blocked a pass attempt.

The loose ball rolled to Moore who sent it back towards the goal. There, Mikayla Gioia was standing in the goal box and headed past the Dordt keeper and just like that C-SC led 2-1 with 35 minutes to play in the game.

After the go-ahead goal, Dordt controlled possession for most of the second half and had several opportunities to tie the game.

One of those opportunities came in the 82nd minute when a penalty kick was issued to the Defenders after a C-SC takedown in the penalty area. But C-SC goalkeeper Sam Link made the save to preserve the lead if for only for a moment.

Still needing a goal to tie, Dordt kept the pressure on when another attempt to tie the game was stopped by Link in 84th minute. However, Link was injured on the play and left the game, replaced by freshman Isabella Williamson.

The home team took advantage of the new goalkeeper just into the game, scoring the tying goal just 47 seconds later.

Each team recorded a shot in the final five minutes with Dordt sending an attempt high over the cross bar.

Then, in the final minute, the Wildcats had two corner kicks with a chance for a game-winner. Nothing happened on the first one, but the second one produced an opportunity where Lexi Clark found a loose ball near the six-yard line. Clark got off a close-ranged shot, but the Dordt goalkeeper smothered it for the save.

Link made nine saves in the game to help the Wildcats remain unbeaten on the season.

C-SC (3-0-1) begins Heart of America Athletic Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 6, with a home match against William Penn University. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton.
