Women's Lacrosse Held to Three Goals in Loss to No. 6 Keiser
The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team was shutout in the second and third quarters in a 20-3 loss to sixth-ranked Keiser University (Fla.) Sunday morning at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
Addison Holm scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats in the opening quarter but C-SC still trailed 4-2 after the opening 15 minutes.
But the difference in the game came over the next two quarters as the Seahawks outshot the hosts 23-3 and outscored the Wildcats 11-0 over the next 30 minutes.
C-SC finally snapped the goal string when Kaleigh Poe scored with an assist from Holm just 32 seconds into the final quarter. Kaiser stifled any hopes of a comeback by netting five more goals in the final period to account for the final score.
Keiser held every statistical advantage, including 18-6 in draw controls, 34-12 in shots and 24-15 in ground balls. The Seahawks were also 13-for-13 on clears while C-SC was 10-for-15. C-SC committed 21 turnovers to Keiser's 11 miscues.
Things don't get easier for the Wildcats, who begin Heart of America Athletic Conference play next Sunday, March 29, against defending national champion and top-ranked Benedictine College. The opening draw is set for 10 a.m. at Poulton Stadium.
