Wildcats Advance to Heart Semifinals with Victory over Missouri Valley
The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team outscored Missouri Valley College 16-9 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 69-64 victory in the Heart of America Athletic Conference quarterfinal game at Charles Field House Wednesday night.
The victory advances the Wildcats to the semifinals Saturday night, Feb. 28, at top-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. The Vikings end their season at 16-12.
Leading 41-31 at halftime after shooting 48 percent from the field in the first half, the Wildcats found themselves trailing 55-53 after three quarters as the Vikings shot 82 percent from the field and outscored the hosts 24-12.
C-SC , which forced 12 turnovers in the first half in building its 10-point lead, managed to turn the Vikings over just once in the third quarter as the visitors made their move to take the lead.
However, in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats forced seven turnovers to give the Vikings 20 miscues in the game. The Wildcats took advantage, scoring 28 points in the game.
Avery Oetting surpassed Ellie Kamps for sixth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 17 points. Oetting now has 1,434 points in her career. Misora Nambara added 11 points while Nevaiah Bell-Tenner chipped in with eight markers.
The Wildcats were out-rebounded 29-18 with Oetting and Allysa O'Connor leading the charge on the glass with four caroms each. Nambara dished out a team-high five assists.
