Women's Basketbal Drops Second Straight To League Leader
After winning 11 straight games and going undefeated in the month of January, the Culver-Stockton women's basketball team has dropped its first two games of February against the top two teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
After falling to Benedictine on the road Wednesday night, the Wildcats watched as MidAmerica Nazarene outscored the hosts 18-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 58-45 victory at Charles Field House.
C-SC stayed within six points of the 11th-ranked Pioneers through the first three quarters of the game. The Wildcats trailed 13-8 after one quarter and 25-19 at halftime.
C-SC still trailed by six at 40-34 entering the fourth quarter, but the MNU knocked down seven of its 12 field goal attempts, including both 3-pointers to widen the lead in the final 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats ran out of gas in the final period, making just three of its 12 shot attempts in the quarter. The 45 total points registered by the Wildcats was a season low this season.
Paige Henson scored her Wildcat high of 13 points off the bench t lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Haley Webb chipped in with 10 markers while Chloe Burnham contributed seven points.
The MNU defense limited starters Misora Nambara, Avery Oetting and Nevaiah Bell-Tenner to a combine two points in the game on 1-for-11 shooting. Nambara did dish out five assists.
The Wildcats, now 16-8 overall and 10-6 in the Heart, is slated to play its final road game of the year this Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
