Wildcats Score First 21 Points; Roll to Eighth Straight Victory
The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team scored the first 21 points of the game and was never threatened in a 72-53 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Park University at Charles Field House Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats held the Pirates scoreless for the first seven minutes, 43 seconds of the game before settling for a 26-7 lead after the first quarter en route to their eighth consecutive victory. C-SC led 41-17 at halftime and 63-32 at the end of three quarters, building as much as a 31-point lead in that quarter.
Avery Oetting moved up two spots on the all-time scoring list and now has 1,345 career points to sit seventh all-time. She scored a game-high 18 points to surpass Kristin Allen and Theresa Totsch. Oetting also made four 3-pointers in the game, giving her 205 career 3-pointers, which is second overall.
Keyara Baerga-Plumey, making her first start for the Wildcats, joined Oetting in double figures with 10 points. Misora Nambara and Nevaiah Bell-Tenner just missed double figures, netting nine points each. Camryn Caldwell came off the bench to score a career-high eight markers.
The Wildcats out-rebounded the Pirates 37-27 in the game with Bel-Tenner grabbing a team-high eight caroms. Oetting also led the Wildcats in assists with five helpers, and steals with six.
The Wildcats, now 13-6 overall and 7-4 in the Heart, are scheduled to play at Clarke University this Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Dubuque, Iowa. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
