Oetting, Nambara Lead Wildcats to Big Road Victory
Avery Oetting and Misora Nambara combined for 43 points as the Culver-Stockton women's basketball team picked up a 78-62 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Peru State at the Al Wheeler Activity Center in Peru, Neb.
Oetting scored 13 of her team-high 22 points in the second half while Nambara netted 14 of her season-high 21 points in the first half as the Wildcats built a 46-28 halftime lead.
The Wildcats were on fire shooting the basketball in the opening half, shooting 57 percent (20-35) from the field in the opening 20 minutes. C-SC was especially good in the opening quarter, connecting on 69 percent (11-16) of its shots on its way to a 25-15 first quarter advantage.
Nambara and Oetting also led the Wildcats with three assist each, while Paige Henson came off the bench to corral a team-best eight rebounds. C-SC out-rebounded the home team 24-21 in the game.
The Wildcats were also pesky on defense, forcing 17 Bobcat turnovers that led to 23 C-SC points. Oetting and Chloe Burnham registered two steals each.
The Wildcats, now 6-6 overall and 2-4 in the Heart, is scheduled to play in the Warner (Fla.) Classic next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19-20, in Lake Wales, Fla. C-SC is slated to play Truitt McConnell (Ga.) at 2 p.m. (EST) Friday before facing host Warner at 4 p.m. (EST) Saturday.
