Wildcats Set School Record for 3-pointers in Romp over HLGU
The Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team set a new school record with 15 3-pointers in a 110-59 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University Thursday night at Charles Field House.
The Wildcats finished the game 15-for-31 for 48.4 success rate from the 3-point arc, and was 40-for-75 overall for 53.3 percent. C-SC drained seven of its school record 15 treys in the first half in building a 53-26 halftime lead.
The previous record was 13 3-pointers set on two different occasions with the last time being Feb. 5, 2023, against Graceland. C-SC also made 13 treys on Nov. 2, 2018, against Hannibal-LaGrange.
The Wildcats also topped the 100-point mark of the first time since Jan. 30, 2019, when they scored 103 points in a victory over Graceland University.
Four different players reached double figures to lead the offensive onslaught.
Senior Avery Oetting, despite getting poked in the eye early in the second half, finished with a team-high 28 points, making eight 3-pointers and four three throws. Oetting scored 19 of her 28 points in the second half.
Nevaiah Bell-Tenner chipped in with 17 points, while Elly Bentley registered 16 markers. Chloe Burnham came off the bench to collect 13 points. Bell-Tenner was 7-for-9 from the field while Bentley was 5-for-6 from the floor.
C-SC also held a 44-30 edge in rebounding, including 20 offensive caroms. Three different players, Bentley, Burnham and Haley Webb, all had five rebounds each. Keyara Baerga-Plumey led all players with five assists.
The Wildcat defense recorded 18 steals and forced 25 turnovers while committing just 12 miscues themselves in the game, holding a 42-8 scoring edge off those turnovers.
The Wildcats (2-1) are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 5, when they host Health Science and Pharmacy at Charles Field House. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
