Women's Cross Country Makes History with Victory at Trojan Invitational
The Culver-Stockton women's cross country team had a historic day at the third annual Trojan Invitational hosted by Hannibal-LaGrange University Saturday morning.
First, the Wildcats claimed their first-ever team championship with a total time of 1:54.01, garnering 42 points and finishing two points ahead of NCAA Division II McKendree University's 44 points..
Secondly, Delaney Straus became the first Culver-Stockton runner, male of female, to win an individual title outside the city of Canton. Straus captured individual honors with a course-record time of 20:05.5, beating previous mark of 21:11 by one minute, six seconds.
Four of the five Wildcat runners finished 14th or better in the race that featured runners from eight different schools.
Malia Carmack completed the 5-kilometer circuit in a time of 22:23.5, placing 10th overall. Emma Berry placed 12th overall with a time of 22:48.2, while Erin Peppler was 14th overall with a time of 23:04.7.
Isabella Yeager, making her season debut for the Wildcats, rounded out the five-person rotation with a 22nd place finish in a time of 25:39.6
The Wildcats are scheduled to appear at the Greenville Classic next Friday, Oct. 17, in Hillsboro, Ill. The women's race is expected to begin at 5 p.m.
