Women's Cross Country Begins Season in Record Form
The Culver-Stockton women's cross country team smashed the school record for team time in a 4-kilometer race Friday afternoon during the season-opening Great River Open at River Valley Community Golf Course in Canton.
The Wildcats finished second overall with a time of 1:19.52 to obliterate the school record of 1:30.45 set last season. Mount Mercy captured the team event with a time of 1:12.09 while Central Methodist was third with a time of 1:21.32.
Individually, Delaney Straus broke her own 4-kilometer school record with a time of 14:18.0, placing third overall. The previous mark was 14:44.5.
Erin Peppler recorded the second highest mark in program history with a time of 16:01.01 to finish 10th overall. Malia Carmack made her 4k debut and posted the third highest time in school history with a time of 16:17.9, which was good for 12th place overall.
Two other runners were also in the top five all-time with Emma Berry registering the fourth highest time at 16:33.4, and Kailey Peterson owns the fifth best time with a mark of 16:42.3. Berry placed 14th and Peterson 15th overall, respectively.
The Wildcats are slated to run again on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. The women's race is slated to start at 10 a.m.
