Netters Can't Sustain Fast Start, Fall to Baker in Four Sets
The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team couldn't sustain its fast start and lost to Baker University in four sets Friday night at Charles Field House.
The Wildcats opened the match with a strong hitting attack, registering a .346 hitting percentage in winning the first set 25-21. C-SC, sparked by a couple of early service aces, jumped out to a 9-3 lead and then kept the visitors at a safe distance to claim the first set.
However, the Wildcat offense went awry in the next two sets as the C-SC passing game struggled to get good sets for the hitters.
C-SC hit at a negative percentage in the second and third sets, falling 25-12 and 25-13. The Wildcats combined for just 10 kills and 20 attack errors on 55 attempts over those two sets.
The hosts corrected the hitting issue in the fourth set, but it was too late as Baker pulled away for a 25-17 victory in the deciding set. C-SC did record a .212 percentage in the set.
Another problem for the Wildcats Friday night was their service game. C-SC committed 15 service errors against seven service aces in the match.
Zoe Irvin led the offense with nine kills while Emma Daleen and Victoria Pollard totaled eight terminations each.
The Wildcats, now 8-21 overall and 3-14 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, will conclude the 2025 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 1, with a home match against Benedictine College at Charles Field House. C-SC will celebrate senior night by honoring seniors Irvin and Lauren Bloom before the match, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
