Saint Ambrose Clips Wildcats in Three Sets
The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team was unable to string together points at the end of sets to pull out a victory in a season-opening loss to Saint Ambrose University Wednesday night in Davenport, Iowa.
Playing their first match under the guidance of new Head Coach Josh Branan, the Wildcats took the Bees the distance in each of the three sets before falling each time 25-23, 28-26, 26-24.
C-SC finished the match with a .156 attack percentage, totaling 27 kills on 96 attempts while committing just 12 attack errors. Meanwhile, SAU garnered 43 kills in the match but had 22 hitting errors for a .186 attack percentage.
Individually, Victoria Pollard and Emma Daleen led the Wildcat attack with eight kills each. Daleen ended the night with a .300 hitting percentage while Pollard had a .208 attack success rate. Lael Temple and Lauren Bloom totaled 21 set assists in the match with Temple leading the way with 11.
Defensively, the Wildcats recorded 41 overall digs and five team blocks in the match. Sidnee Schwarz led the back row with 12 digs while Pollard just missed double figures with nine digs. Up front, Daleen registered three block assists to lead C-SC. Faith Hopgood, Lexia Capes and Mikayla Ziemianski all totaled two block assists.
C-SC (0-1) is slated to play in the Showdown in the Woods at St. Mary of the Woods this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29-30, in St. Mary of the Woods, Ind. The Wildcats are scheduled to to play Great Lakes Christian at 1 p.m. and St. Mary of the Woods at 8 p.m. Friday.
