CULVER-STOCKTON WILDCAT ATHLETICS

Straus Three-Peats as Heart Track Athlete of the Week

Straus Three-Peats as Heart Track Athlete of the Week

Make it a three-peat for Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus.

Straus, of Philadelphia, Mo. (Marion County HS) received her third straight Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor presented by WinWon for her performance at Culver-Stockton Invitational Saturday in Canton. This is Straus' fourth outdoor honor this spring and the sixth weekly outdoor honor of her career. Straus has been awarded eight weekly honors this school year combined in the sports of cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

Straus had a phenomenal day Saturday, winning the 400-meter hurdles in a school record time of 1:02.56. That time was good enough for a provisional qualifying time to the NAIA Outdoor Championships, just .60 of a second shy of an automatic qualifying time. Straus now has the best time in the Heart and is the only female in the conference to meet a standard.

Straus followed that performance up by posting a season best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds. She also led the women's 4x100 relay team to a season best time of 50.75 seconds, dropping 2.5 seconds from the previous best, and the women's 4x400 relay with a sub 60 split.

Straus and several of her teammates are scheduled to compete in the Drake Relays Wednesday-Friday, April 23-25, in Des Moines, Iowa.
