Straus Competes at Fighting Chance Invitational in Tuneup for NAIA Meet

Culver-Stockton's Delaney Straus was the only member of the Culver-Stockton Women's track and field team to compete in the University of Saint Francis Fighting Chance Last Chance Meet Friday and Saturday in Joliet, Ill.

Straus competed in five events over the two days, setting a school record in one and personal bests in three.

Straus's best finish over the weekend came in the javelin throw Friday night when she set a personal best throw of 117 feet, 5 inches to place seventh overall. That mark was the second highest throw in school history.

Straus set a school record and narrowly missed a provisional qualifying time in the 1500-meter run, finishing in a time of 4:40.79 to place ninth overall. That time was just 0.79 seconds off the qualifying time.

In other events, Straus placed 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.80, 12th in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches, and 15th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.94, which was also a personal best.

Straus, Faith Younce and Allison Morris have all qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships May 22-24 at Indian Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. Straus has qualified in the 800 and the heptathlon, while Younce and Morris have qualified in the 5000-meter race walk.
