Women's Track and Field Turn in Strong Effort at Viking Classic
The Culver-Stockton women's track and field team registered 10 top eight finishes at the Grand View Viking Classic Friday in preparation for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships next weekend.
The Wildcats recorded four second place finishes in the meet, finishing as runner-up in the 3000-meter steeplechase, the 5000-meter run, the 4x100 relay and the pole vault.
Allison Morris set a personal best in the steeplechase, finishing second on a time of 13:19.12, while Emma Berry placed fourth overall with a time of 14:23.41.
Faith Younce placed second in the 5000 run with a time of 21:22.60 while Zoe Smith placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet, 0 1.4 inches. Also finishing second was the relay team of Petra Johnson, Delaney Strauss, Malia Carmack and Emma Smith in the 4x100.
Carmack also had a third place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.66. In a field event, Carmack placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 0 3/4 inches.
Johnson set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 inches to finish fourth overall.
Finally, Morgan Keith placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.22, while Faith Hopgood finished eighth in the discus with a personal best throw of 105 feet, 5 inches.
The Wildcats are scheduled to participate in the conference championships next Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.
