Straus Earns First Indoor Track Heart Weekly Honor
Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week presented by Boxout for her performance at the Luther Invitational Saturday in Decorah, Iowa.
Straus, a junior from Philadelphia, Mo. (Marion County HS), claimed two individual events during the Luther Invitational. Straus set a meet record in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:38.41. She followed that up with a first place finish in the 1,000-meter run, completing the circuit in a time of 3:05.09, which is the best time in the Heart this season and a top 25 time in the NAIA. In addition to her individual feats, Straus anchored the 4x400 relay team to a third place finish in a time of 4:22.99, which is the third best in school history. Straus ran a 57.2 second split in the relay.
Straus and the Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. The NAIA Indoor Championships are slated for Feb. 27-March 1 in Gainesville, Fla.
