Ottawa Strikes Early in Victory over Women's Lacrosse

Ottawa University scored early and often as they defeated the Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team in a key Heart of America Athletic Conference game Wednesday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Braves netted the first 10 goals of the game before the Wildcats' Jacee Grinsteinner finally broke the ice with C-SC's first goal with 3:56 remaining in the first half.

Unfortunately, Ottawa added two more goals before the intermission to take a 12-1 lead into the halftime break. The Braves outshot the Wildcats 24-4 and held an 11-4 edge in draws during the first half.

Ottawa extended its lead to 15-2 after three quarters before the Wildcats made a late run and scored four of the five goals in the fourth quarter.

Ottawa ended the game with 39-12 advantage in shots and a 38-23 edge in ground balls. The Wildcats never stopped an Ottawa offensive attack as the Braves were a perfect 16-for-16 on clears. C-SC was 13-for-17.

Grinsteinner led the Wildcats with three goals and four ground balls. Addison Holm, who is the reigning offensive and defensive player of the week, was held to two goals on just four shots. She did lead C-SC with eight of its nine draw controls.

The Wildcats, now 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the Heart, has two games remaining in the regular season beginning with a road game at Missouri Baptist University this Saturday, April 11, in St. Louis, Mo. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
