Women's Lacrosse Registers First Shutout in Program History with 19-0 Decision over Mount Mercy

The Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse team registered its first shutout in program history in a 19-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Mount Mercy University Friday morning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Jillian Vervynck stopped all four shots the Mustangs put on goal to put her name in the history books as the first goalkeeper to record a shutout for the women's lacrosse program. The Wildcats had played 85 games before earning the first shutout.

Vervynck got a lot of offensive support from her teammates as the Wildcats notched six goals in the first period and five goals in the second quarter to lead 11-0 at the intermission. C-SC, which outshot the Mustangs 33-4, added three more goals in the third quarter and five goals in the final quarter to account for the scoring.

Addison Holm and Jacee Grinsteinner repeated their effort from Wednesday's victory over Saint Ambrose by scoring five goals each to lead the attack. Holm chipped in with five assists while Grinsteinner added two assists.

Rylan Mahone contributed three goals on five shots, while Mia Naughton and Katie Garavaglia garnered two goals each. Brookelyn Lindberg tallied a goal and three assists, and Tennesyn Rohman notched one goal.

The Wildcats had a 16-5 edge in draw controls with Holm tying a school record with 12 draw controls in a single game. She shares that record with Lauren Grebing, who did it against Missouri Valley in 2024, and Roman, who did it against Mount Mercy last season. In addition, her 12 draw controls give her 65 draw controls this season, which set a new single season mark, breaking the record of 63 by Kaelin Quarles in 2025.

C-SC also held a 16-11 advantage on ground balls and forced 30 turnovers while committing just 16 miscues. The Wildcats were were also 15-for-17 on clears and was 1-for-1 on free position shots.

C-SC is scheduled to play its final regular season home game this Wednesday, April 8, against Ottawa University. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
