Georgetown Starts Fast Runs Past Wildcats
The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak ended with a 17-5 loss to Georgetown College at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Ky., Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start as the Tigers scored the only four goals of the opening period to lead 4-0 after 15 minutes. C-SC managed just one shot and and was 1-for-5 in draws in the period.
Addison Holm broke the string with the first of her two goals in the opening minute of the second quarter; however, Georgetown notched six of the next seven goals in the quarter to go to the halftime locker room up 10-2. Rylan Mahone netted the only other goal for the Wildcats in the quarter.
The Tigers increased their lead to 14-2 with four unanswered goals to start the third quarter before Holm and Peyton Bice scored unassisted tallies at the end of the quarter to bring C-SC to within 14-4.
Mahone scored her second goal of the game midway through the fourth quarter to account for the Wildcat scoring.
Holm led the Wildcats with nine shots overall, including seven on goal, while Mahone had three shots overall and two shots on goal.
The Wildcats wee outshot 31-18 in the game and the Tigers held a 15-10 advantage on draws. Both teams committed 21 turnovers and Georgetown held a 13-11 advantage on ground balls. C-SC was 0-2 on free position shots while the Tigers were 2-for-4.
The Wildcats (2-3) are slated to conclude their southern trip on Saturday, March 7, when they play at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tenn. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
