Lacrosse Can't Overcome Slow Start, Fall to Augustana on the Road

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team ceded the first six goals of the game in a 9-6 non-conference loss to Augustana (Ill.) College Saturday afternoon in Rock Island, Ill.

The Vikings led 4-0 after the first period and added two more goals to start the second period before Addison Holm scored the first of her four goals to get the Wildcats on the board.

Holm added her second goal just before halftime to cut the deficit to 6-2 at the intermission. C-SC's Jacee Grinsteinner and Avery Jones notched goals at the start of the third period to bring the visitors to within 6-4.

After Augustana stopped the bleeding to make the score 7-4, Holm added her third goal late in the third period before garnering her fourth goal early in the fourth quarter to get the Wildcats to within 7-6.

The Vikings added an insurance goal midway through the fourth quarter to regain a two-goal advantage, and then netted a goal with 10 seconds left to ice the victory.

The Wildcats were outshot 24-17 in the match and committed 28 turnovers to the Vikings' 18. After being on the wrong side of a 25-4 edge in draws in the season opener with Missouri Baptist, the Wildcats won the draw battle 11-8 with the Vikings.

C-SC (0-2) will attempt to find their first victory this Tuesday, Feb. 24, when it hosts the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
