Wildcats Hold Penn to 38 Points in Home Victory
The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team shot a season-high 58.5 percent from the field in capturing its third straight victory with a 75-38 Heart of America Athletic Conference decision over William Penn University Wednesday night.
The victory clinches a home playoff game for the Wildcats in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament which begins next Wednesday, Feb. 25. The Wildcats will be the fourth seed in t he tournament.
C-SC made 31 of its 53 field goal attempts while limiting the Statesmen to 31 percent shooting, ting a season-low of 14 field goals allowed. It was the fourth time this season the Wildcats have allowed less than 40 points in a a game.
After giving up 13 points in the first quarter, the Wildcats held the Statesmen to single digits in the final three period of play. The Wildcats also dominated on t he glass, out-rebounding the visitors 37-18.
Allysa O'Connor garnered a game-high 12 points to lead three Wildcat players in double figures. O'Connor also led the Wildcats with six rebounds while also dishing out three assists.
Avery Oetting eclipsed the 1,400 point mark for her career, scoring 10 points in the game. She is the seventh player in school history to reach 1,400 career points and currently has 1,409.
Elly Bentley came off the bench to tally 10 points and five rebounds. Keyara Baerga-Plumey recorded team-highs in assists (5) and steals (3).
C-SC, now 19-8 overall and 13-6 in the Heart, is slated to play its regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 21, against Clarke University. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Charles Field House.
