Wildcats Hold Mount Mercy to 35 Points in Winning 11th Straight Game
The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team continues to be dominant on the defensive end of the floor.
The Wildcats held Mount Mercy University to just nine first half points and 35 points overall as they won their 11th straight game with a 65-35 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory at the Hennessey Recreation Center Wednesday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
In the first half, C-SC limited the Mustangs to three goals on 28 attempts, including 1-for-11 from the 3-point stripe. Mount Mercy was 10-for-28 from the field in the second half and finished at 23.2 percent for the game.
Meanwhile, the Wildcat offense wasn't great, registering 12 field goals in each half. The C-SC defense forced 15 turnovers leading to 11 points. The Wildcats were also 12-for-14 from the free throw line.
Nevaiah Bell-Tenner scored a season-high 21 points, finishing just one point shy of her career high of 22, to lead the Wildcat scoring. Misora Nambara chipped in with 12 markers and a game-high six assists.
C-SC grabbed a season-high 48 rebounds and out-rebounded the hosts 48-38 in the game. Avery Oetting and Allysa O'Connor recorded six caroms each to top the Wildcats. Oetting also garnered a team-high four steals.
During the 11-game winning streak, the Wildcats have allowed opponents to score just 47.9 points per game. C-SC has held opponents under 50 points in seven of the 11 games during the streak.. The Wildcats have won the 11 games by 21.6 points per game on average.
The Wildcats, now 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the Heart, is off until next Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Atchison, Kan., to battle Benedictine College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
