Oetting's Big Game Earns Her Heart Honor

Culver-Stockton College senior Avery Oetting has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week presented by WinWon Technologies.

Oetting, a guard from Hallsville, Mo. (Hallsville HS), earned her first weekly award of her career after tying two school records in Saturday's 106-64 victory over Graceland (Iowa) University.

Oetting registered 40 points against the Yellowjackets to tie the mark for points in a game which was originally set by Meleia (Musgrove) Niemann on Feb. 6, 1980, against Quincy College. In matching the scoring record, Oetting drained nine 3-pointers in the contest to match that school record which was set by Mackenzie Lathrom on Feb. 15, 2023, also against Graceland.

Oetting shot 15-for-22 from the field overall and 9-for12 from outside the 3-point arc while also making her only free throw of the game. She is averaging 16.9 points per game this season, which ranks seventh in the Heart. Oetting is second in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.9 percent (45-96) from long range, and leads the Heart in free throw shooting, making 90.6 percent (29-32) of her attempts.

Oetting is the second Wildcat to earn player of the week accolades this season, joining Nevaiah Bell-Tenner who was named the defensive player of the week on Dec. 22.

The Wildcats, who have won four straight games, are scheduled to host Missouri Baptist University this Wednesday, Jan. 7, in a conference game at Charles Field House. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
