Free Throws Lift Wildcats to Season-Opening Victory

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team outscored Indiana University-Columbus 29-7 from the free throw line in posting a season-opening 74-59 victory over the Crimson Pride during the Atrium Classic Saturday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats (1-0) will host Bethel (Tenn.) University Sunday in the final game of the classic. Bethel, ranked second in the NAIA Preseason National Poll, defeated Mount Mercy 71-51 earlier in the day.

C-SC put four players in double figures with Elly Bentley leading the way with 16 markers, including a 7-for-7 effort from the foul line. Haley Webb came off the bench t net 15 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Avery Oetting and Nevaiah Bell-Tenner each chipped in with 10 points each and were a combined 8-for-9 from the foul line.

C-SC shot just 34 percent from the field, making 20 of its 59 shot attempts, but did enough at the foul line to keep the Crimson Pride at a safe distance. The Wildcats out-rebounded the visitors 44-43 in the game.
