Wildcat Softball Suffers a Pair of Extra Inning Losses

The Culver-Stockton College softball team suffered a pair of extra inning losses to William Woods University in Here of America Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon in Fulton, Mo.

The Owls scored a run on a Wildcat error in the bottom of the 11th inning to take the opening game 4-3. Then, in the nightcap, after C-SC forced extra innings with a run in the seventh inning, the Owls got a run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth for their second walk off of the day.

The first game saw the Wildcats collect just three hits in the game but were in the game due to William Woods issuing nine walks.

William Woods led 1-0 when C-SC's Kataleena Hunt tripled with two outs and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The score stayed that way until the ninth inning with Hunt walked with one out and advanced to second on a single by Sophie Meyer.

After a double steal, Payton Todd walked to load the bases and that was followed by yet another walk to plate Hunt with the go-ahead run.

An error and two singles by the Owls in the bottom of the inning tied the game again and the game went to the 10th inning where the international tie0-breaker was invoked.

C-SC's Cierra Bush was placed on second to start the inning and a flyable to right by Aleki Ulu moved Bush to third base. The next hitter, Ryley Pecina reached on an error by the third basemen, scoring Bush with the lead run.

The Owls plated a run in the bottom of the inning and then held the Wildcats scoreless in the top of the 11th before the C-SC defense betrayed them and allowed the winning run to score.

Cabria Childers went the distance for the Wildcats, hurling 10-plus innings and allowing six hits. Childers walked three and struck out nine.

In game two, C-SC scored three times in the first inning behind a RBI double from Samantha Vetter, a run-scoring single by Pecina and a sacrifice fly by Bush.

The Owls got a run back in the bottom of the first and then added three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead.

The score remained that way until the Wildcats got a leadoff single by Leila Lopez to start the seventh inning. Lopez was sacrificed to second by Todd, and scored on a single by Ulu to tie the game.

The game was decided in the eighth when the Owls put two singled together after one out and then got a game-winning double to seal the sweep.

Todd and Ulu garnered two hits each to lead the Wildcats, who had eight hits in game two.

The Wildcats are scheduled to return hime this Saturday, March 28, to battle Missouri Valley College at Himsl Field. The first of two games is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
