Softball Limited to Six Total Hits in Two Losses Saturday
The Culver-Stockton softball team concluded the Dordt Classic with two losses Saturday at the America State bank Sports Complex Dome in Sioux Center Iowa.
The Wildcats committed four errors and were limited to three hits in a 12-0 loss to 15th-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) in the first game. In t he nightcap, Doane (Neb.) avenged yesterday's 9-1 loss with a 5-2 victory over C-SC.
Against Doane, C-SC starter Lauren Sinks allowed just one hit in a scoreless first inning. However the Tigers put the first two runners on via walks in the second inning, and then a two-run triple followed to give Doane a 2-0 lead.
Sinks was replaced by Penny Ruiz and the Tigers touched her for a two out single to make it 3-0 after two innings.
The score stayed that way until he fifth inning when the Wildcats pulled to within 3-2 on a two-run double by Kataleena Hunt. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning with two unearned runs to account for the final score.
In the opening game, Northwestern plated three runs in the second inning off of C-SC Aspyn Harrison. Harrison kept it a three-run game until the fifth when the Red Raiders added three more runs off of Harrison in a four-run frame.
Makayla Slavik relieved Harrison and allowed six more runs over the final 1 2/3 innings.
The Wildcats (1-3) is slated to complete the opening weekend trip with a doubleheader against Mount Marty (S.D.) on Sunday, Feb. 4, in Sioux Center. The first game is set for 2 p.m.
