Softball Places Three Players on All-Heart Softball Team
The Culver-Stockton College softball team placed three players on the Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference Softball Team, the league announced Friday.
Outfielder Sophia Ashby was named to the second team for her play during the season. Catcher Alle Thompson and outfielder Katelyn Felt were named to the team as honorable mention selections at their respective positions.
Ashby, a freshman from Williamsport, Ind. (Seeger Memorial HS), batted a team-best .356 as the leadoff hitter this season. She registered seven doubles, a team-high seven home runs, recorded 20 runs batted in and pilfered a team-high 12 bases in her inaugural season. In addition, Ashby had a team-best 42 hits in 46 games. Ashby batted .491 as a leadoff batter, .342 with runners on base and .346 with runners in scoring position during the regular season.
Ashby was even better against conference opponents, batting .392 with five doubles, four home runs and 13 runs batted in. She also scored 19 runs, was issued nine walks, and stole five bases during conference play.
Thompson, a senior from Des Moines, Iowa (Saydel HS), was named to the all-conference team for the third consecutive season. Thompson, who was first team selection in 2022, batted .254 with a team-high 10 doubles, six home runs and a team-best 28 runs batted in. She walked a team-high 19 times and scored 25 runs while collecting 35 hits in 50 games this year.
In league play, Thompson hit .258 with six doubles and five home runs while registering 19 runs batted in. Thompson batted .367 as a leadoff batter and .400 with the bases loaded. She led the team with 14 two out RBIs.
Felt, a senior from Waukee, Iowa (Waukee HS), played in 46 of the 50 games this season and batted .306 with nine doubles and one triple. She collected 41 hits overall, which was second on the team, scored 23 runs and had 16 runs batted in. Felt batted .303 with runners on base but upped that figure to .340 with runners in scoring position.
In Heart play, Felt hit .300 with five doubles and 10 runs batted in. She scored 13 runs, stole five bases and was issued nine walks in 22 contests.
The Wildcats concluded the 2023 season with an 20-32 overall record and a 12-14 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
