Wildcats Defeat Kansas Wesleyan on Senior Day
Less than 24 hours after losing a two set lead in a loss to Ottawa University, the Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team lost a 24-21 first set lead Saturday against Kansas Wesleyan University.
The Wildcats could have folded and collapsed but instead they rallied over the next three sets to claim their second conference win with a 24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 25-23 senior day victory over the Coyotes.
C-SC recorded a .315 attack percentage in the match, garnering 51 kills and just 16 errors on 111 attempts. The Coyotes had a .153 attack percentage on 131 attempts. KWU totaled 48 kills and had 28 hitting errors.
The Wildcats were strong at the net with 9.5 team blocks while the Coyotes had just four team blocks. C-SC also had a 46-40 advantage in digs.
Cooper Varner continued his fine recent play with 11 kills and a .312 attack percentage. Rio Victor added nine terminations with no errors for a .692 attack percentage. Senior Malachi Gnade and junior Zack Kowalwicz chipped in with seven kills each.
Matt Reese has 27 set assists to lead the Wildcat two setter system. Kirvan Hughes contributed 14 set assist and two service aces.
Kowalwicz and Victor each had one solo block and four block assists to lead the C-SC defense at the net.
C-SC is scheduled to make its final road trip of the season next Friday and Saturday, April 3-4. The trip begins with a match at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
