Varner, Men's Volleyball Claim First Heart Victory

The Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team claimed its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory with a straight set victory ov er Graceland University Tuesday night at Charles Field in Canton.

The 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 victory snaps a 15-match conference losing streak dating back to the final two matches of the 2024-25 season.C-SC improves its record to 3-20 overall and 1-13 in the Heart. Graceland falls to 2-21 overall and 1-12 in the Heart.

The Wildcats finished the match with a 46-33 edge in total kills with C-SC registering a .412 attack percentage to Graceland's .217 hitting percentage. The Wildcats had just 13 hitting errors with six of those coming by way of Yellowjacket blocks.

Cooper Varner, who totaled 34 kills in two matches over the weekend, stayed hot with a team-high 15 terminations on 25 attempts. Varner also led the defensive back row with eight digs. Henry Reeves also reached double figures with kills with 11. Reeves hit at a .429 clip with 11 kills on 21 attempts and two errors.

Matt Reese and Kirvan Hughes accounted for 40 of the 43 set assists with Reese recording a team-best 21 helpers.

The Wildcats are slated to continue their three-match homestand this weekend with two more conference matches beginning Friday night, March 27, against Ottawa University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
