Lucas Makes History with All-American Run
In his final collegiate race, Culver-Stockton College's Logan Lucas made school history when he became the first male track athlete to earn All-American honors.
Lucas, a graduate student from Monroe City, Mo. (Monroe City HS / Iowa Wesleyan University), secured the honor with an eighth place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase on the final day of the 74th Annual NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Asheville, N.C.
Lucas finished in a time of 9 minutes,18.81 seconds, a full five seconds ahead of the ninth place finisher, Martin Batel of Campbellsville (Ky.). Lucas fell short of his school record in the event (9:18.55) by .26 hundredths of a second.
Lucas is the eighth track and field athlete and the fifth male to warrant All-America honors. C-SC has had five men earn seven different All-America honors in three separate field events, including the high jump, pole vault and decathlon, while two women have earned All-America honors in the 200-meter dash and the heptathlon.
