Logan Lucas Quaifies for Final in 3000 steeplechase

Culver-Stockton College graduate student Logan Lucas (Monroe City, Mo. / Monroe City HS / Iowa Wesleyan University) made history Thursday afternoon at the 74th Annual NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Asheville, N.C.

Lucas, a seven-time NAIA national qualifier and four-time all-conference performer, is the first male athlete in program history to reach a national track final after qualifying for the final of the 3000-meter steeplechase. He finished sixth in his heat with a time of 9:24.45 to narrowly sneak into the final field of 14 by 1.4 seconds. The top three finishers in each of the three heats and the five best times overall times qualified for the final.

Lucas qualified for nationals after placing second overall at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships by setting a school record with a time of 9:18.55 on May 2.

Lucas is scheduled to run the final at 1:45 p.m. (CDT) Friday, May 22, weather permitting.
