Mallett, Lucas Compete on Opening Days of Drake Relays

Two Culver-Stockton men's student-athletes competed at the Drake Relays Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Decathlete Drew Mallett, a senior from LaGrange, Mo. (Highland HS), competed in the decathlon for the third straight year. Mallett finished 13th among the 25 athletes that started the competition with 5,966 total points.

Mallet scored the most points in the opening event, the 100-meter dash. He finished the race in 11.31 seconds, good enough for 731 points. His best finish in any event was a 10th place finish in the high jump. Mallett cleared  a height of 5 feet, 9 3/4 inches.

The other male athlete who competed Thursday was graduate student Logan Lucas  (Monroe City, Mo. / Monroe City HS / Iowa Wesleyan College) who competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Lucas finished 18th among the 21 runners that started the race with a time of 9:41.43, which is 20 seconds slower than his personal best of 9:21.11 set at the Mustang Distance Carnival two week ago.

The entire Wildcat team is slated to compete in the Vikings Classic at Grand View University in Des Moines on Friday, April 24. That meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
