Lucas Breaks Own Mark in 5000-Meter Run
The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team took part in the 27-team Central Dutch Invitational at Central College in Pella, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats posted four personal bests and three school top 10 performances during the meet.
Logan Lucas broke his own school record in the 5000-meter run, finishing third overall with a time of 15:30.27. Lucas also finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:44.02.
Drew Mallett garnered one top 7 individual finish and also helped a relay team to a top 10 performance. Mallett placed seventh in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 12 feet, 1 ½ inches. In the relay, Mallett led off the 4x400 race and helped the Wildcats to a second place finish in a time of 3:24.82, which is the 10th best time in school history.
Other athletes making waves on Saturday were Ty Kiser, who set personal bests in the 200-meter dash and the triple jump. In the 200, Kiser finished in a time of 23.96, which was a personal high for him. Kiser also set personal mark in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 2 ½ inches. The triple jump mark was the seventh best in school history.
Ayden Hodges joined Kiser with a personal best in the 200, hitting the tape at 22.86 seconds. Judah Rivers ran the seventh best time in program history in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:08.98.
The Wildcats are back in action this Thursday and Friday, April 2-3, at the Central Methodist Invitational in Fayette, Mo. Thursday's action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with Friday's events starting at 9 a.m.
