Rivers Chosen as Heart Track Athlete of the Week
Culver-Stockton College senior sprinter Jabez Rivers has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Grand View Viking Relays Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Rivers, hurdler from Phenix City, Ala. (Central HS / Iowa Wesleyan University), won both the 400-meter hurdles and the 110-meter hurdles at the relays Saturday. He captured the 400 hurdles by 0.69 seconds, and the 110m hurdles by 0.38 seconds.
Rivers' time in the 110 hurdles of 15.09 is currently No. 10 in the NAIA and first in the Heart. His time of 56.09 in the 400 hurdles is currently second in the Heart and 20th in the NAIA. In addition to his hurdling exploits, Rivers also helped 4x100 relay on a windy day win the race in a time of 43.43. He also ran a 52.1 split on the 4x400 with his shoe coming off 110 meters into the race and still managed to pass 2 teams.
The Wildcats are scheduled to participate in the Central Methodist University Invitational in Fayette, Mo., this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.
