Wildcats Rally for Two Second Half Goals to Earn Tie with Oakland City

The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team scored two second half goals to earn a 2-2 tie with Oakland City University in non-conference action Tuesday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton, Mo.

The Wildcats allowed two goals in the first 13 minutes of the and found themselves 2-0 at the intermission. The Mighty Oaks were mighty efficient in the opening 45 minutes, putting seven of their nine first half shots on goal. C-SC goalkeeper Tom Freear made five saves to keep C-SC within striking distance.

C-SC, which had six shots in the first half, opened the second half with high energy and more pressure on the Oakland defense.

The Wildcats peppered the Mighty Oaks net for 10 second half shots but it wasn't until the 71st minute when a throw-in from Gino Buffa to the middle of the goal box found Lucas Kim for his first goal of the season to cut the lead in half.

With C-SC pressing to get the tying goal, the Wildcat did just that in the 89th minute when another throw-in from Buffa found led to several shots by the Wildcats that either hit the crossbar or were saved by the Oakland defense.

Eventually the ball caromed to Kim who found Jackson Richmiller and he slipped the ball past the Oakland goalkeeper for the tying goal to snap C-SC's five match losing streak.

The game was even throughout with each team finishing with 16 shots overall, including 10 shots on goal. Both goalkeepers made eight saves and the visitors held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Wildcats (0-6-3) are scheduled to resume Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11th-ranked Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
