Nine Men's Soccer Players Named Scholar-Athletes
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday that 382 men's soccer student-athletes have been named 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Baker University (Kan.) landed the most individuals on the list with 11 total.
Culver-Stockton placed nine players on the list this season, which was second to Baker among all men's soccer playing schools in the 12-school Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Named from the Wildcats were senior forward Dominic Caruso, an athletic training major from St. Louis, Mo. (Affton HS); senior defender Dylan Donovan, a business major from O'Fallon, Mo. (Fort Zumwalt North HS); senior forward Greg Frias, a legal studies/political science major from St. Louis, Mo. (Troy Buchanan HS); senior defender Jacob Schierding, an athletic training major from Saint Charles, Mo. (St. Dominic HS); and senior defender Alex Williams, a finance major from Troy, Mo. (Troy Buchanan HS). All five players were named for the second consecutive year.
Also named to the list were senior midfielder Jonathon Pampinella, a business administration major from Phoenix, Ariz. (Scottsdale CC); senior defender Mauro Perez-Gaido, a Psychology major from Buenos Aries, Argentina; junior forward Thomas Cooper, a business major from Nottingham, England (South Nottingham College) and junior midfielder Alfredo Ferreira, an elementary education major from Homewood, Ill. (Homewood-Flossmoor HS).
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor. Transfer students must complete one full year to be eligible.
