Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Benedictine
The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Benedictine College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match at the BC Soccer Complex in Atchison, Kan.
The tie extends the Wildcats' winless streak to four games and puts their record at 5-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Heart, good for seventh place in the league. C-SC will try to get back in the win column this Tuesday, Oct. 6, when it hosts Columbia College in a non-conference match at NX Level Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
Benedictine jumped out in front on a goal by Parker Melott in the 19th minute of the game. Melott's shot was just one of three in the first half by the Ravens and the only one on goal in the opening 45 minutes. C-SC out-shot the Ravens 7-3 in the opening half.
The Wildcats didn't take long to get the equalizer as Alejandro Mentasti netted is fifth goal of the season in the 55th minute. The goal came shortly after the Wildcats earned a corner kick. The Mentasti tally was one of 10 shots in the second half for the Wildcats.
The game went to overtime and the Ravens dominated the extra time, out-shooting the Wildcats 8-0 combined in the two, 10-minute periods. Benedictine ended the game with an 18-17 advantage in shots despite the Wildcats have a 9-4 edge on goal.
