Wildcats Unable to Capitalize on Opportunities in Home Loss to No. 23 MNU

The Culver-Stockton College football team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 69-7 loss at home to 23rd-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University Saturday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton, Mo.

The Wildcats didn't have much trouble moving the ball, amassing 381 yards of total offense, including 219 yards on the ground. However, C-SC had a tough time finishing drives throughout the night.

Four times the Wildcats advanced the ball into the red zone but was only able to come away with seven points on those four opportunities. C-SC fumbled, missed a field goal and turned the ball over on downs on the other possessions inside the red zone.

Nicholas Jarrett led the Wildcat rushing attack with 68 yards on 15 carries, an average of 4.5 yards per attempt. Tyler Danzey carried the ball five times for 48 yards , while Demarion Cobb had 40 yards on 11 carries and scored the Wildcats' lone touchdown on a one-yard run in the second quarter.

Quarterback Drake Day finished the night 14 of 29 for a 162 yards, but was intercepted twice and both turnovers went for touchdowns. Kyle Dixon had another big night receiving with four receptions for 78 yards.

Meanwhile, MNU showed why it was nationally ranked in the preseason poll. The Pioneers recorded 551 yards of total offense with a balanced attack led by quarterback Adrian Parsons who finished with 300 yards passing on 15 of 19 accuracy and five touchdowns.

For the second straight week, the Wildcat defense struggled to get off the field on third down, allowing the Pioneers to convert all nine attempts in the game. For the season, C-SC opponents are now 24-27 (89 percent) on third down this season.

C-SC is scheduled to play its first road game of the 2024 campaign next Saturday, Sept. 14, at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
