Three football players named scholar-athletes

CANTON, Mo. -- Culver-Stockton College had three players named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Named on this year's list were junior linebacker Brent Holtrop, senior tight end Josh Arnsman and junior place kicker Will Ryan.

Holtrop, an English major from Frisco, Texas (Centennial HS), recorded a team-high 103 tackles in 2009. He totaled eight tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery while being named to the All-Heart of America Athletic Conference second team.

Arnsman, a physical education major from Mendon, Ill. (Unity HS), saw action in all 11 games, mostly on special teams. He had one kickoff return for 10 yards

Ryan, a history and religion education major from Des Moines, Iowa (Roosevelt HS), led the Wildcats with 24 points in 2009. He was five for six on field goal attempts and nine of 12 on extra points. His longest field goal was 35 yards.

The NAIA announced that a total of 212 football student-athletes were named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
