CULVER-STOCKTON WILDCAT ATHLETICS

Mennenga Steps Down as Head Football Coach

Culver-Stockton College head football coach Shawn Mennenga has stepped down from his coaching responsibilities effective December 31. Mennenga had spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the Wildcat football program.

The decision comes after C-SC finished 2-8 this season. The Wildcats completed the 2004 season tied for 10th in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) after compiling a 2-8 league mark. C-SC finished the 2003 season 4-6. Mennenga led C-SC to a 4-7 record in 2002.

Mennenga compiled a 10-21 record overall as head coach of the Wildcats. His teams were 10-20 against HAAC competition.

"Shawn's presence on campus represented an excellent role model for our students," said C-SC president William L. Fox. "Culver-Stockton students have observed a true professional in action, an example that will serve them well in the years ahead."

Mennenga had served as a member of the Wildcat coaching staff since the 2001 season when he began at C-SC as defensive coordinator under Chris Tabor. He was promoted to head coach prior to the 2002 season after Tabor left to become receivers coach at Utah State University.

"Shawn's hard work and dedication while football coach at Culver-Stockton was exemplary," said athletic director Rod Walton. "The football program made positive strides during his tenure and we wish Shawn and his family well."

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
