Wildcats Swept by No. 8 Missouri Baptist

The Culver-Stockton College baseball team suffered its second straight doubleheader loss when they were swept by eighth-ranked Missouri Baptist University Tuesday afternoon at the Spartan Baseball Field in St. Louis, Mo.

The Wildcats battled back from a 3-1 third inning deficit to tie the game in the fourth inning of the opener; however, the hosts plated a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to secure a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats.

In game two, four Missouri Baptist  pitchers held the Wildcats hitless in an 11-0 victory. The Wildcats managed just four baserunners in the game.

C-SC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening game when Ethan Weber drove home Dallas Slayton with an infield single. Slayton had led off the inning by reaching on an error.

The Spartans took the lead in the third inning with a bases loaded triple but the Wildcats answered in the fourth when Harry Oden walked, moved to third on a double by Slayton and scored on a two-run single by Wyatt Wright.

Missouri Baptist plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth and them added two more runs in the fifth inning for a three-run lead.

The Wildcats threatened in the seventh inning when Weber and Brandon Diaz Valentin collected two-out singles to bring the tying run to the plate. However, Jeremiah Morris grounded out to end the game.

In the nightcap, an eight-run fourth inning by the Spartans broke open a 3-0 game sending the Wildcats to their fifth straight loss.

Wright worked a one-out walk in the third inning for the Wildcats' first baserunner of the game. In the fifth inning, Slayton struck out but reach base on a wild pitch on the third strike. He moved to second on another wild pitch and then Eoin Hubbard was hit by a pitch. Wright flew out to right and pinch hitter Lance Rewerts flied out to center field to end the inning.

C-SC also put a runner on in the seventh inning when General Schofield reached on an error. But Oscar Calhoun line into a double play and Slayton grounded out to end the game.

The Wildcats resume Heart of America Athletic Conference play this Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29, with twin doubleheaders in Lamoni, Iowa. The first game each day is set for 1 p.m.
