Baseball Loses Twice on Saturday

The Culver-Stockton baseball team dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn.

The Wildcats wasted a solid start from Isaiah Naylor and relief effort from Ryan Jung in a 2-0 loss in the opener.

Naylor hurled three shutout innings to start the game before the Lions loaded the bases on a single, a walk and an error in the fourth inning.

The Wildcats were going to concede one run when Naylor induced a groundball for a double play. However, a throwing error on the throw to first allowed a second run to score.

Naylor pitched four innings and allowed just four hits in the game. He walked two and struck out five. Jung pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, one walk and a strikeout.

Offensively, C-SC managed a single by Jeremiah Morris in the fourth inning and a single by Brandon Diaz Valentin in the sixth inning.

In the nightcap, Freed-Hardeman plated seven runs on just three base hits as the Wildcats committed two crucial errors in the third inning of an 8-4 victory. C-SC starter Aaron Barr allowed just three earned runs on three hits and five walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Jared Marty and Cole Peterson relieved Barr and combined to allow one run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Trailing 8-0 after six innings, C-SC finally broke through in the seventh with three runs. Harry Oden and Tim Meyer hit sacrifice flies to drive in two runs, and Wyatt Wright delivered a run-scoring double.

C-SC scored its final run in the ninth inning when Oden hit a solo home run with one out in the inning.

The Wildcats and Lions conclude the four-game series Sunday with another doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. in Henderson, Tenn.
