CULVER-STOCKTON WILDCAT ATHLETICS

about athletics

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

The Culver-Stockton College Athletics Department considers intercollegiate athletics to be a vital part of the college community. As such, the athletic department will strive for excellence just as academic units on campus strive for excellence in teaching and service. In its commitment to excellence, the Athletic Department will provide the student-athletes at Culver-Stockton College with exemplary leadership, outstanding service, appropriate facilities and the opportunity to compete at the highest level of intercollegiate competition at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).

The Culver-Stockton College Athletics Department believes that the student-athlete is a representative of the general student population with similar academic qualifications and similar probability of success. While striving to achieve athletic success, the athletic department will not compromise the rights and academic goals of the student-athlete. Further, it is the belief of the Department that participation in athletic programs should lead to the total development of a well-rounded, more enlightened individual.

The Athletic Department serves as the "Front Porch" of Culver-Stockton College and to the Canton community. The Department recognizes the importance of serving as a concerned and committed partner in community life.

Integrity is indispensable to an intercollegiate athletics program, for without it, sport loses its true meaning. The Culver-Stockton College Athletic Department believes the administration, staff, coaches, student-athletes and the entire campus community must share in the commitment to abiding by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Culver-Stockton College, the HAAC and the NAIA.

ABOUT CULVER-STOCKTON ATHLETICS

With 19 sports – from the women's soccer to the football squad, from the field house to the diamond, from the track around the gridiron to the woods around campus – we have the intercollegiate competition you seek. Nearly 60 percent of Culver-Stockton students are involved in at least one intercollegiate team. In addition, we have a variety of intramurals for the occasional athlete in everyone.

But Culver-Stockton sees more than the athlete in you. As part of the Heart of America Athletic Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), we are committed to the NAIA Champions of Character program and the belief that athletic participation builds core values: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. Participation in this program helps build character, strengthens leadership, and emphasizes the student athlete's personal values and his/her responsibility to be a mentor for younger athletes.

We also see the "student" in every student athlete. Culver-Stockton is as proud of our All Americans as we are of the number of C-SC students who are recognized each year by the NAIA as "Scholar Athletes." Although every C-SC faculty member will work with student athletes to accommodate schedules, every C-SC coach emphasizes that academics comes first. Several teams include group study sessions with the same regularity as team practice.
