The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team allowed a late goal and settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie with Saint Ambrose University Wednesday night at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
The draw is the second straight on the road for the Wildcats, who also tied 1-1 at William Woods (Mo.) Sept. 6. C-SC is 2-1-2 overall, including 0-1-2 in overtime games this season.
The Wildcats are slated to open the Heart of America Athletic Conference schedule this Saturday, Sept. 16, against seventh-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Olathe, Kan.
After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard first when Javier Todtenbier-Magallon netted his first goal of the season. Mackenzie Northern registered his third assist of the season on the goal.
C-SC dominated the second half, outshooting the Bees 9-2 in the half. However, the Wildcats could never get a second goal as the SAU goalkeeper made five saves in the half and nine saves overall.
Meanwhile, the Bees got the equalizer in the 80th minute when Travis Walsh scored an unassisted goal for his third tally of the year.
Both teams had their chances in the two 10-minute extra periods with the Wildcats recording five shots and the Bees totaling four shots. Each team also had two shots on target.
C-SC goalkeeper Nicholas Luciani played all 110 minutes and was the goalie of record for the Wildcats. Luciani made six saves in the game.
