The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team scratched and clawed all night but could never get the upper hand in a four-set loss to 11th-ranked Missouri Baptist University Tuesday night at Charles Field House in Canton.
The Spartans claimed the first two sets with relative ease 25-14, 25-17 before the Wildcats gathered themselves and won the third set 25-23 in a close finish. The fourth set was competitive in the early part of the set, but the Wildcats ran out of steam, losing 25-12 to end the match.
Monica Bumbry led the Wildcat attack with 10 kills, including seven in the final two sets. Jenna Lord carried the load the first three sets with eight kills before settling for nine terminations overall. Gabby Hickman recorded seven kills.
Anna Stock led the defense with a team-high 16 digs while Kendra Gengenbacher totaled 10 digs on the back line. Paige Webster registered four block assists. Stock also had two service aces in the match.
C-SC, now 5-9, returns to conference action Friday night, Sept. 15, when it hosts Peru State College (Neb.) at Charles Field House. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
