Second ranked Baker University scored touchdowns on its first two plays from scrimmage and added a safety in between en route to a 67-7 victory over the Culver-Stockton College football team Saturday afternoon at NX Level Field at Elison Poulton Stadium in Canton, Mo.
After returning the opening kickoff deep to the C-SC 36-yard line, Baker's JD Woods took it the rest of the way for a 36-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.
The Baker defense added two more points on C-SC's ensing possession when noseguard Josh Kock sacked Wildcat quarterback Jalen Jones and forced a fumble that was recovered by an offensive lineman in the end zone for a safety.
After the free kick, Baker took one play to score as Logan Brettell hit Clarence Clark in stride for an 81-yard touchdown pass. Clark and Brettell would add a 27-yard scoring pass before the first quarter as Baker led 23-0 after 15 minutes.
C-SC's offense settled down and dented the end zone on its next possession, going 72 yards on 16 plays before Juan King, Jr. caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jones for his first collegiate touchdown. Ben Workman's extra point was good and the Wildcats trailed 23-7.
But that would be as close as the Wildcats would get as Baker scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 51-7 lead to the halftime locker room. Baker added 10 more points in the third quarter and a final touchdown in the final quarter to account for the final score.
Baker amassed 781 total yards in the game, gaining 430 yards passing and 351 yards on the ground. The visitors had two running backs with 133 yards or more rushing and one receiver with 100 yards receiving.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats garnered 289 yards total offense with Jones recording 159 total yards, garnering 106 yards through the air and 53 yards on the ground. Nathan Barnes led the C-SC rushing attack with 65 yards on 14 carries, including a long of 34. Irving Collier had four receptions for 55 yards to lead the receiving corps.
