The Culver-Stockton College men's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2016-17 scheduled by finishing ninth out of 20 teams at the NAIA National Preview Tournament held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. Oct. 17-18.
With a strong, gusty wind blowing Monday, the Wildcats struggled in the opening round and finished with a team score of 325, their highest team round of the fall season. The wind settled down Tuesday and the Wildcats rebounded for a 308 to finish with a team sore of 633.
Grand View (Iowa) captured the team event with a score of 602 (306-296) while Mount Mercy was second with a score of 604 (308-296). Mitch Pfingsten of Grand View and Zachary Chegmidden of William Penn tied for medalist honors with and identical score 2-over 144.
Individually, Hunter Baggett and Jon Roberson tied for 17th place to lead the Wildcats. Both struggled to 11-over par 82s during the first rebound, but rebounded to shoot 1-over 72 the second day to finish at 12-over 154.
Ryan Keller finished in a tie for 56th place overall with a score of 22-over 164, while Brock Hirn tied for 68th place with a score of 25-over 167 and Devin Hobbs tied for 84th overall with a 32-over 174.
