The Culver-Stockton College men's golf team fell short in its quest to win its third straight Heart of America Athletic Conference championship Tuesday afternoon at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.
The Wildcats carded a 54-hole total of 890 (+26) to finish in third place, one stroke behind Mount Mercy (Iowa) which finished at 889 (+25). Grand View (Iowa) won the team title by 18 strokes, finishing with a team total of 871 (+7).
C-SC started the day tied for second place with William Penn (Iowa), 13 strokes behind Grand View. The Statesmen finished fourth overall with a total of 893 (+29). The Wildcats recorded a 302 in the final round after garnering a 298 and 290 during the first 36 holes. Grand View and Mount Mercy were the only two teams to shot below 300 all three rounds.
Individually, Zach Kuhlman-Pfeiffer and Hunter Baggett tied for seventh place overall with a three-round total of 5-over 221. Kuhlman-Pfeiffer started the day fourth overall but struggles with a five-over 77 in the final round. Meanwhile, Baggett jumped up seven spots Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 71. Myles Pfingsten of Grand View was the individual medalist, finishing at 5-under 211.
Defending conference champion Ryan Keller finished one stroke behind Kuhlman-Pfeiffer and Baggett, finishing with a 6-over 222. Keller, who was in seventh place after the first 36 holes on Monday, carded a 4-over 76 Tuesday to finish ninth overall.
Jon Roberson finished in a tie for 15th place overall after shooting a 10-over 226. Roberson shot identical 74s on Monday, but fell to a 78 on Tuesday. The fifth member of the Wildcat quintet, Chace Burris, finished in a tie for 29th place with a 29-over 245.
